Information provided by the Artist: Originally from New York City and now based in Sacramento, Susan Silvester is celebrated for her enchanting, fairytale-like works that capture the wonder of childhood, adolescence, and whimsical creatures. In the 1980s, she crafted artwork for figures such as Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselman, and Marisol, while her creative ventures have spanned sculpting giant elf heads for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, life-size monsters for a New Jersey theme park, and designing props for iconic TV commercials like the Pillsbury Doughboy and Pee Wee’s Playhouse. From 1997 to 2009, she also served as a college art professor, specializing in color theory and drawing. Her versatile practice in sculpture, painting, and printmaking is further enriched by notable public art projects, and she currently contributes as a member of the California Society of Printmakers and as a board member for Myrtle Press.
