David Maxim studied art history at UCLA and achieved his Master's Degree in 1968. Refusing the usual studio route, he applied his knowledge of the history of painting to his own development as an artist. His work has a variety of approaches from naturalism to total abstraction. He has concentrated on animal and environmental issues in recent years. Perhaps best known for his constructed pictures, his work is in many museum collections: SFMOMA, Crocker, British Museum, Albertina, Museum fur Moderna Kunst, Houston, and San Antonio Museums. See the two-volume STAGES: Art of David Maxim.
